Desingularizing homology manifolds
We prove that if X , n ≥ 6, is a compact ANR homology n-manifold, we can blow up the singularities of X to obtain an ANR homology n-manifold with the disjoint disks property. More precisely, we show that there is an ANR homology n-manifold Y with the disjoint disks property and a cell-like map f : Y → X.
متن کاملBlowing up and Desingularizing Constant Scalar Curvature Kähler Manifolds
This paper is concerned with the existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics on blow ups at finitely many points of compact manifolds which already carry constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics. We also consider the desingularization of isolated quotient singularities of compact orbifolds which already carry constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics. Let (M,ω) be either a m-dimensiona...
متن کاملHomology manifolds
The study of the local-global geometric topology of homology manifolds has a long history. Homology manifolds were introduced in the 1930s in attempts to identify local homological properties that implied the duality theorems satisfied by manifolds [23, 56]. Bing’s work on decomposition space theory opened new perspectives. He constructed important examples of 3-dimensional homology manifolds w...
متن کاملProblems on homology manifolds
In these notes “homology manifold” means ENR (Euclidean neighborhood retract) Z–coefficient homology manifold, unless otherwise specified, and “exotic” means not a manifold factor (ie local or “Quinn” index 6= 1. We use the multiplicative version of the local index, taking values in 1+8Z). In the last decade exotic homology manifolds have been shown to exist and quite a bit of structure theory ...
متن کاملTopology of Homology Manifolds
We construct examples of nonresolvable generalized «-manifolds, n > 6 , with arbitrary resolution obstruction, homotopy equivalent to any simply connected, closed «-manifold. We further investigate the structure of generalized manifolds and present a program for understanding their topology. By a generalized n-manifold we will mean a finite-dimensional absolute neighborhood retract X such that ...
